As I am contemplating on what to do, the power goes off. I am out of units. I become convinced that this is the devil tempting me. He tempted Jesus three times in the desert, and here I am, being tempted thrice also; gas, cable, and now power. I remember the generator went off on its own the previous night; it was empty. So I sit there in the dark, stuffing the cereals into my mouth and sweating in unusual places. I look out of my window, my neighbors have light, and that aggravates me. Then my phone rings, it’s Sandra, my Bizzy-body neighbor who flirts with me always.
“Kelvin, I heard when you came in, but why is your flat in darkness?”
“I ran out of power, therefore I’m in darkness. I will buy units tomorrow,” I reply uninterestedly.
“No, you don’t have to wait till tomorrow. You can have power now. I’m coming.”
This must be one of her tricks to come close to me again, I thought, but Sandra comes over in no time.
