NEW YEAR; FIT YOU

It’s a new year! While it’s a brand new opportunity for a fresh start, your health and Fitness should not be left behind. It is time to make healthy decisions that are worth sticking to.

Living a healthy lifestyle does not necessarily imply spending hours in a crowded gym, forfeiting plates of delicious jollof rice or living like a monk (Don’t get me wrong, the monk lifestyle has its advantages).

A healthy lifestyle should comprise effortless routines and habits that will improve your health immediately and long-term. With the dawn of each year the human body ages. While nobody gets out of this ‘Life’ game alive, it is important to understand that the only way to aging gracefully, is to opt for a healthy lifestyle. Here are the first steps to a fit you, this New Year.

PORTION CONTROL

Practicing portion control is the cornerstone of good nutrition. It can help you maintain a moderate weight or lose those extra pounds even. Rather than shaking your head in Negation every time jollof rice is offered you, why not go for smaller servings of your favorite meal while regulating the number of important food groups and nutrients that you consume.

CUT DOWN ON ALCOHOL AND CARBONATED BEVERAGES

Cutting down on alcohol has lots of benefits health-wise, mentally, socially and even financially. Many alcohol-related health risks do not appear until later in life. Not only does alcohol leave you dehydrated, but it has also been proven to affect and disrupt sleep patterns. Carbonated drinks, on the other hand, are said to be highly acidic thus unhealthy. The next time you get thirsty or crave a carbonated beverage, drink water instead.

AN ACTIVE LIFESTYLE

Living a sedentary lifestyle with little or no activity is one of the worst things you can do to your body. Unfortunately, this is one of the banes of modern existence as most people stay put in office chairs for a greater part of the day. To maintain an active lifestyle, endeavor to go on occasional walk breaks, stand up, use the stairs instead of the elevator, go for a run, Jogg, or engage in just about anything that would have you moving from one spot.

Staying healthy should be a conscious effort that would over time become a habit. This year should be the beginning of long-term beneficial choices.
