How to Properly Clean Your TV Screen

You must be wondering, is there a special way to clean a TV screen?

When you think about it, a TV is a window to another world, and it’s not one you want to clean with just anything. Televisions are easily scratched and can be damaged if not handled with care.

So, even if you merely need to dust it and remove the occasional fingerprint, there is a proper way to clean your TV screen.

What You Need:

  • Microfiber cloth (avoid paper towels or rough fabrics)
  • Distilled water (tap water may leave residue)
  • White vinegar or mild dish soap (optional)
  • Screen-safe cleaning solution (if preferred, but no ammonia, alcohol, or acetone)

Steps to Clean Your TV Screen:

  1. Turn Off & Unplug the TV
    • This prevents electrical issues and helps you see smudges better. A warm screen can interfere with cleaning.
  2. Use a Dry Microfiber Cloth First
    • Gently wipe the screen in circular motions to remove dust and fingerprints.
  3. Dampen the Cloth (If Needed)
    • If smudges remain, lightly dampen the microfiber cloth with distilled water or a mix of 50% white vinegar & 50% distilled water.
    • Never spray liquid directly on the screen—it could seep into the edges and damage internal components.
  4. Wipe Gently
    • Use light pressure and wipe in a circular motion to avoid streaks.
  5. Dry Immediately
    • Use a dry microfiber cloth to remove excess moisture.
  6. Clean the Frame & Ports
    • Use a separate cloth to wipe the bezels and dust off vents and ports.

What to Avoid:

  • Harsh chemicals like ammonia, alcohol, or acetone
  • Paper towels or rough cloths (they can scratch the screen)
  • Spraying liquid directly onto the screen
  • Pressing too hard (it could damage pixels)
